Christine Simonian Bean
Assistant Director, Faculty Teaching Initiatives and Programs
Christine Simonian Bean is the Assistant Director of Teaching Initiatives and Programs at the CTL. Christine develops and facilitates programming and services for faculty, postdoctoral, adjunct, and other instructors, with an emphasis on reflection-centered and discipline-specific teaching practices and implementation. Throughout, she promotes equitable and inclusive pedagogy, and collaborative learning communities.
Christine joins the CTL from the Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching at Northwestern University. There, she facilitated the Teaching Certificate Program, mentored graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and developed seminars and workshops to support the larger teaching and learning community on campus. She received her Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama from Northwestern University, her M.A. in Theatre Studies from University of California, Santa Barbara, and her B.A. in Drama from University of California, Irvine. Her specialization is in theories of embodied spectatorship, the senses, and reality/liveness. Christine has taught courses on Acting, Writing, Theatre History, Critical Race and Gender Theory, and Performance Studies.
Outside of her academic pursuits, Christine enjoys attending performances, visiting museums, cooking, and most especially eating.
