CTL launches new webpage featuring 2016 Kennedy Prize Winner Lin-Manuel Miranda

The Center for Teaching and Learning has launched a webpage featuring interviews with Lin-Manuel Miranda, the recipient of the 2016 Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History. Miranda is the composer, lyricist, writer and star of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton.
The CTL recorded interviews with Miranda when he visited Columbia University earlier this spring to accept the award. Highlights from the visit include a short interview with Miranda on his experience creating a musical inspired by American history. The CTL also documented Miranda’s visit to a public exhibition by Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library to view a selection of Alexander Hamilton’s original papers and personal artifacts.
Miranda’s award-winning musical Hamilton – with book, music and lyrics by Mr. Miranda, in addition to him playing the title role – opened on Broadway in 2015 following a sold-out run at New York’s Public Theater.
Past winners of the EMK Prize include: Suzan-Lori Parks, Father Comes Home from the Wars, Part 1, 2 & 3 (2015); Dominique Morisseau, Detroit ’67 (2014); Dan O’Brien, The Body of an American (2013); and Robert Schenkkan, All the Way (2013).
