This Week for Faculty: Zoom Security & Virtual Office Hours Resources

On-Demand Resources

Security and Privacy in Zoom

There are privacy and security considerations for any online class. Zoom provides a variety of settings and tools to help keep unwanted external participants from entering your class space and for managing disruptive participants.

Columbia University IT and the CTL recommend the following settings and controls to help ensure safety and privacy.

Virtual Office Hours

With remote teaching and learning comes online office hours. Holding online office hours can help extend the online learning environment, contribute to instructor presence, and make you more accessible to your students. It can also build instructor-student rapport and help learners across time zones feel more connected and stay motivated to learn. This resource provides an overview of Zoom and CourseWorks Conferences (BigBlueButton) for online (virtual) office hours.

[External] ACUE Webinars on Effective Online Instruction

The Association of College and University Educators has developed several webinars featuring nationally recognized experts discussing best-practices in online instruction to ensure student success. These new webinars coincide with the toolkit we featured last week.
