Inclusive Teaching Intensive

Looking to take your inclusive teaching practice to the next level? This three-hour intensive will help faculty rethink their syllabus design using a framework of inclusive teaching. Faculty will meaningfully apply principles of inclusive teaching to their syllabi, assessment strategies, and classroom activities to create a course climate that maximizes learning for all students.

In a cohort of peers, participants will workshop syllabi (including course content, policies, and accessibility standards) and commit to making changes to future practice. Apply by Friday, November 22.

Dates: Wednesday, December 11, 2019
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: 212 Butler Library

Course Design Essentials

Are you looking to design a new course, or change the design of an existing course? Do you want to get a jump start on course planning for the spring semester? Maximize the time before the start of spring semester by joining other Columbia faculty in a one-day course design workshop!

CTL staff will guide participants through a day of interactive activities that will get you started planning your course, and you’ll walk away with the materials you need to create learner-centered course materials. All faculty with Columbia teaching contexts are welcome to attend. Lunch will be provided. Apply by November 26 for full consideration. Applications received after November 26, 2019 will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Discussion-into-Practice: Accessibility in Teaching and Learning

How do we make teaching and learning accessible to all students? How can you design learning experiences with all students in mind? These are a few of the questions that we will explore in this reading and discussion group for faculty. At each gathering, faculty participants will discuss the literature and explore the topic of accessibility in the context of the teaching and learning environment.

Together, participants will reflect on their teaching, share strategies, and consider how the literature can inform their practices.  It’s not necessary to attend both gatherings. Please join us as your interests dictate and schedule allows. Lunch will be provided.

Dates: Thursday, October 31 & Thursday, November 7
Time: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM
Location: 212 Butler Library
