Communities: You’re Not Alone!

Online & Hybrid/HyFlex Teaching Communities (Reflection in Action)

“Reflection is the element that turns experience into learning.” Schon (1983)

Are you teaching an online or hybrid/hyflex course in Fall 2020? Looking to meet other faculty teaching in similar modalities across campus and share ideas and strategies?

Join the CTL for conversations with colleagues about experiences with online or hybrid/HyFlex teaching. These informal communities are intended to be a space for faculty to come together to brainstorm, share, learn from and support one another through an unprecedented semester. These monthly informal gatherings provide an opportunity to regularly reflect on and refine your current online teaching and learning practices during the course of the semester. Register through the dates linked below.

Synchronous & Asynchronous Workshops

Teaching Online with CourseWorks

Join us in exploring how to create community, support student engagement, and assess student learning in the online context using CourseWorks. This 90-minute workshop will give you an overview of the CourseWorks interface and highlight a toolset that will allow you to set up a course with clear expectations for students, create opportunities for a variety of assignment engagements, and nurture an environment that encourages a culture of inclusive communication. Register for upcoming sessions on the CTL events page.

Unable to attend a live session? Enroll in the self-paced Introduction to CourseWorks (Canvas) course.

Hybrid & Online Teaching Institute

Join over 1,000+ Columbia faculty in the Hybrid & Online Teaching Institute!

To prepare Columbia faculty for the Fall 2020 semester, the Hybrid & Online Teaching Institute guides faculty through adapting their courses from face-to-face to online or hybrid formats. This offering provides instructors a foundation that can serve across all formats of teaching with the capacity to adapt quickly to whatever mode of teaching makes the most sense at any given time. The institute provides faculty with a comprehensive toolkit they can apply to their own course context whether this may be a seminar, small lecture, or large lecture class. The institute consists of a mix of self-paced and live sessions and the total time commitment is around six hours.
