CTLgrads Journal Club: Online Teaching
This spring, CTLgrads Journal Club (in partnership with Language Lounge) is diving into literature on teaching from Discipline-Based Education Research (or DBER). In our discussions, we are focusing on how we can draw on peer-reviewed research into our teaching practice. On April, 8 we’ll start up a new conversation about Online Teaching. Optional reading for this session: Chapter 1 (“Is Online Learning Here to Stay?” in Michelle Miller’s Minds Online: Teaching Effectively with Technology (Harvard University Press, 2014)).
This session counts as a pedagogy workshop for the Teaching Development Program (TDP).

Teaching Statement and Teaching Portfolio
Are you a graduate student approaching the academic job market? Wondering what materials to gather and how to get started? In this workshop, participants will discuss components intrinsic to most academic job applications and take a deep dive into two of the central materials: the teaching portfolio and the teaching statement. By the end of the session, participants will come away with a clear understanding of the content and purpose of the teaching portfolio and teaching statement and how to get started on them. During the session, CTL staff will provide a hands-on opportunity to gather ideas, activities to kick-start the writing process, and samples to help participants hone their writing and make their materials more effective.

It provides an overview of considerations, approaches, and tools that can help keep you connected to students and their learning.
