Representing Your Teaching Summer Intensives

Wondering how to present your teaching on the academic job market? The CTL is hosting a four-day series of intensive, day-long online workshops entitled Representing Your Teaching Summer Intensives (RYTSI) from July 6-9, 2020.

RYTSI workshops focus on teaching statements, teaching portfolios, syllabi, and diversity statements. We have designed these intensives to help participants learn about and begin drafting teaching-related documents for the academic job market and to obtain feedback and guidance from peers and the CTL.

Each intensive will run on Zoom and consist of a morning session, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM EST, and an afternoon session, from 3:00-4:00 PM EST, with self-paced, off-line work time in between. We invite Columbia graduate students to register for one, several, or all of these intensives, based on their interests and needs.

Date: Monday, July 6 – Thursday, July 9
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: via Zoom

CTLgrads Summer Book Club

Are you interested in the research on teaching and learning in online spaces and how to apply this research to your teaching practice? Join us every other week for this summer’s CTLgrads Bookclub where we will read Minds Online: Teaching Effectively with Technology (2014) by Michelle Miller, PhD, and dig into the research on student learning, memory, attention, and motivation in digital and online learning environments.

We read 1-2 chapters each session and will also focus on how to use education research like Miller’s work to inform our own teaching practices. Participants are expected to have read the chapters beforehand in order to contribute to and learn from the bookclub’s discussions. These sessions are open to graduate students and postdocs, feel free to join any or all sessions throughout the summer!

The CTLgrads Bookclub will be held online. Registered participants will be sent a meeting ID and passcode to join before each session via Zoom. Register through the links below:
