Language Lounges: Accessibility in Teaching and Learning
CTL Language Lounges are an opportunity for graduate students teaching in languages other than English to focus on the connection between second language acquisition and instructional practices, and to share ideas with peers teaching in other languages. Language Lounges this year will focus on conversations about what it means to make teaching and learning a second language more accessible within a class.

Collaborative Learning Seminar starts Tuesday!
The Collaborative Learning Seminar is a series of four sessions that explore small group learning activities and the instructional methods and technologies that support them. Working in groups, participants experience various cooperative interactions and support each other’s exploration of collaborative learning. By the end of the seminar, each participant will have designed a collaborative learning activity linked to learning objectives that will be ready to run with students or show to colleagues.

Hacking Common Classroom Environments and Challenges
The way we use and experience classroom environments has important implications for teaching and learning. Though the quality and suitability of the spaces in which we are assigned to teach can feel beyond our control, even the most limiting classrooms can be re-imagined and re-purposed through a range of creative “hacks”–low-or no-cost spatial, pedagogical, and/or reflective interventions–that foster a positive classroom climate and support active learning. By the end of the session, participants will walk away with a robust toolkit of strategies to employ in a range of classroom and other campus environments.

Teaching Materials Peer Review Session
Looking for a supportive, informal environment to refine course materials (syllabi, lesson plans) or job market materials (teaching statements, diversity statements, teaching portfolio)? Drop by with a draft, and work with other graduate students to give and receive feedback using a lightly structured peer-review process developed by CTL. CTL staff will be on hand to offer advice and pertinent resources to all participants — as well as coffee and light snacks. Participants are asked to bring draft material (however preliminary) to be able to exchange and discuss.
