Innovating Instruction MOOC to Relaunch with a Focus on STEM Education
The Innovating Instruction: Learning Design in the STEM Classroom MOOC (massive open online course) will relaunch on July 11, 2018 with a new focus on STEM education. The course is free and open to all with an optional paid verified certificate. While the concepts in this course can be applied to different educational contexts, it is particularly geared toward K-12 teachers in the United States.
Led by Dr. Ellen Meier, Director and Co-Founder of the Center for Technology and School Change at Teachers College, Columbia University, the four-week course explores the building blocks for designing technology-infused projects for all disciplines, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Throughout the course, participants design an authentic project to implement in their classroom, while learning more about project-based learning and its growing popularity.

Meier is the Director and Co-Founder of the Center for Technology and School Change and a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Technology at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is also Co-Chair of the University of the State of New York Council on Technology Policy and Practice, a panel appointed by the Regents to examine technology use in public schools, libraries, museums and other similar state agencies.
Meier’s course incorporates stimulating lectures, readings, interactive assignments, community discussions, and interviews with featured scholars and practitioners including Linda Curtis-Bey, Chris Dede, Renee Hobbs, Jay McTighe, Reshan Richards, and Mia Zamora.
