CTL Revitalizes Introduction to CourseWorks (Canvas) Online Course

by | Aug 26, 2019

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has issued a new version of its self-paced, online Introduction to CourseWorks (Canvas) course. This revised course provides an overview of how to navigate the learning management system, use tools and set up your CourseWorks (Canvas) courses to support your teaching and learning practices. The course is free and open to all members of the Columbia community. Self-enroll in this new version today from anywhere and at any time! Note: the older version of the course has been discontinued.

A flexible alternative to CTL’s in-person workshop sessions, the course provides tips and examples that highlight the use of CourseWorks tools as applicable to various teaching and learning contexts. The course features: a checklist to help instructors design their CourseWorks courses with their learners in mind, resources across Columbia for CourseWorks help, and information about how to use CourseWorks to best engage and interact with students.

CourseWorks is built on Canvas, an open-source learning management system. Canvas enables easy integration of course content and relevant tools to enhance a face-to-face, hybrid, or online course. CourseWorks sites allow instructors to post their syllabi, course objectives, and textbooks, and to communicate with, engage, and assess their students.

Visit the CTL website’s CourseWorks (Canvas) page for additional information and resources. Departments and academic groups can also request their own Introduction to CourseWorks (Canvas)  sessions by emailing ColumbiaCTL@columbia.edu.
