The Office of the Provost welcomes the Columbia teaching and learning community to Low Library for the Celebration of Teaching and Learning Symposium on Thursday, February 22, 2018 to celebrate the innovative efforts of faculty and graduate students in transforming their courses and pedagogies.

The annual event brings together Columbia faculty, students, and staff to share effective teaching practices, celebrate the accomplishments of their peers, strengthen collaborations, and inspire new ideas in a forum dedicated to enriching the student learning experience. View the full program and registration details here.

Here are five reasons you should join us!

reason 1Explore the future of higher education. This year’s keynote speaker is Cathy N. Davidson,  educator and author of The New Education: How to Revolutionize the University to Prepare Students for a World in Flux. Join us from 4:00-5:00 PM to discuss: what should higher education look like, considering the complexities of the world today’s students have inherited?

reason 2
Celebrate innovations in teaching and learning. Leading up to the keynote, sessions from 1:00-3:30 PM will showcase the exemplary work of Columbia faculty and graduate student instructors who are transforming their courses and pedagogies, including the Provost’s Hybrid Learning Course Redesign and Delivery faculty awardees.

You can drop by at any time. Participants should feel free to come and go throughout the day. The Symposium will close with a reception and a poster exhibition from 5:00-6:30 PM featuring the work of Columbia instructors. All are welcome to join us for food, refreshments, and an opportunity to network with colleagues.

reason 4Empower your learners. This year’s theme at the Center for Teaching and Learning is “empowered teaching, empowered learning.” Get inspired to facilitate new approaches for helping students learn how to learn and take ownership of their learning. Find out how the CTL can offer you the support and resources to put your ideas into practice.
