Register for Representing Your Teaching Summer Intensives | July 15-19
Wondering how to present your teaching on the academic job market? The Center for Teaching and Learning is hosting a week of events where graduate students can learn about and begin drafting teaching-related documents with feedback and guidance from CTL.
Representing Your Teaching Summer Intensives (RYTSI) in 2019 runs July 15-19: come for one day, or come for all! Register for one, several, or every day of RYTSI. As space is limited, we ask you to register only for days for which you are sure you can participate for the full day.
About RYTSI:
During RYTSI, you will focus on representing your teaching in different parts of your academic job application: teaching statements, teaching portfolios, syllabi, diversity statements, and presenting your teaching in interviews and on the market. Each day runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in 212 Butler Library. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. This program is facilitated by CTL Graduate Student Programs and Services.
On Monday, July 15, we will be working on the teaching statement, a common element of an academic job application that represents in writing your teaching approaches and experiences.
On Tuesday, July 16, we will be working on the teaching portfolio, a curated selection of annotated teaching artifacts characterizing your teaching to future employers.
On Wednesday, July 17, we will be working on syllabi, a means of communicating your approach to designing courses in your discipline.
On Thursday, July 18, we will be working on the diversity statement, which represents your contributions and commitment to diversity and inclusion in teaching as well as research. Although this is still an uncommon element of a job application, preparing this document will help you speak about these topics with potential employers.
On Friday, July 19, we will be working on how to present your teaching on the academic job market. This day will focus on speaking about your teaching experiences and approaches in interviews and teaching demonstrations.
