Active Learning Institute for Faculty

Looking to increase student engagement in your course? Our hands-on Active Learning Institute (ALI) helps faculty transform their undergraduate and graduate-level courses into an environment for participatory learning. The three-day intensive institute is open to Columbia faculty and designated graduate teaching assistants.

During the institute, faculty will explore the purposes and outcomes of active learning, and apply research-based practices to the process of developing active, learner-centered course units. Through a combination of hands-on activities, presentations, and discussions, faculty will work through the essential components of designing engaging student experiences. ALI also includes a hands-on lab experience facilitated by the CTL where faculty experiment with educational tools and software.
