Peer-to-Peer Learning (2-part)
Research has shown that student attention spans are limited: after 10 or 15 minutes of lecture even the most engaged students’ attention will drift off. By incorporating peer-to-peer interaction into our teaching, we can improve engagement and optimize learning. These sessions will cover a variety of activities that will allow you to expand your teaching repertoire, and how you can modify them for use in and out of the classroom. Join us on Tuesday, September 18 and Tuesday, October 2, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, at 212 Butler. Lunch provided to registered participants!
Teaching Observations
The CTL offers Teaching Observations with trained peer consultants who can help you think through your course goals, your teaching observation experience, and your future teaching. CTL Teaching Observations are confidential, evidence-based, and developed to support you in your teaching practices. Fall 2018 Teaching Observations will take place between Monday, September 17 and Friday, November 16, 2018.
Microteaching
Microteaching
The CTL offers Microteaching sessions that can help you rehearse teaching practices and get direct feedback and support, whether or not you are currently teaching. We invite current Columbia graduate students or postdocs to register individually, or with a small group of peers wishing to do a session together. Register for a scheduled session or request a custom session.
Upcoming Events
Teaching Development Program Launch
CTL’s Teaching Development Program (TDP) is a comprehensive new service that will allow Columbia doctoral students to cultivate, document, and reflect on teaching development across the arc of their graduate school career. The Teaching Development Program will open at the program launch on September 20, 12:00 – 1:15 pm, 203 Butler Library. This gathering will provide an overview of the TDP, with guidance for making individual plans for completion. CTL staff and graduate students who have participated in a TDP pilot will be on hand to assist and answer questions. A light lunch will be available to registrants. Learn more here.
