Slow Teaching: Beholding

November 4, 2016
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Butler Library Room 212

What is the value of slowing down our perception of what we see? How does sharpening our powers of observation help us better grapple with complexity? In this session, we will explore the balance between focused attention and open awareness involved in the practice of beholding and discuss different ways to be present with objects and images in our lives and our classrooms.

The Slow Teaching, Deep Learning series seeks to develop reflective communities of inquiry through contemplative practice. In each session, participants will engage with emerging research regarding the benefits of mindfulness in and outside of the classroom, and be guided through exercises they can potentially apply to their personal and pedagogical practices. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
