Xiaoyan Qin (she/her) serves as a Learning Designer at the CTL. She is passionate about exploring how information, communication technologies, and new media can empower teaching and learning practices. She also thrives on creating hands-on, collaborative learning experiences using Makerspace.
Xiaoyan graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with a Master’s degree in Communication and Education. Before joining the CTL, Xiaoyan was an instructional designer at The National Center for Disaster Preparedness, Columbia Climate School. She also instructed Mandarin drill courses for Columbia undergraduate and graduate students at the Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures.
Before moving to NYC, Xiaoyan worked at New York University Shanghai, where she partnered closely with curators, artists, scientists, and scholars to assist in curating researched based contemporary art exhibitions. As an educator, she taught Mandarin at the University of Miskolc and various middle schools and high schools in Hungary. In the classroom, she is determined to unlock every student’s potential and promote a creative learning environment for each student inclusively.
Outside of work, Xiaoyan is a photographer, keeping a visual diary of everyday aesthetics and her globetrotting. When she is not traveling and taking photos, she enjoys bouldering, thrifting (especially in Brooklyn), visiting museums and theaters, and making fun DIY crafts.
