Call for Applications: Active Learning Institute for Faculty

Are you a faculty member looking to increase student engagement in your course? The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is currently accepting applications from faculty for the 2018 Active Learning Institute (ALI). The hands-on, three-day institute helps faculty transform their undergraduate and graduate-level courses into environments for participatory learning.

Date: Tuesday, June 5 – Thursday, June 7, 2018

Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Location: Butler Library Room 212

Application Due: Monday, May 7, 2018 (Apply here)

During ALI, faculty will explore the purposes and outcomes of active learning, and apply research-based practices to the process of developing active, learner-centered course units. Through a combination of hands-on activities, presentations, and discussions, faculty will work through the essential components of designing engaging student experiences. ALI also includes a hands-on lab experience facilitated by the CTL where faculty experiment with educational tools and software.

ALI is open to Columbia faculty and designated graduate teaching assistants. Visit the CTL website to read testimonials from past participants about their ALI experience and to learn more about what faculty will take away from the program. Should you have any questions regarding ALI, please contact the CTL at CTLfaculty@columbia.edu.
