Celebrating 10 Years of Provost-Funded Teaching Innovations at Columbia: A Faculty Panel

Tuesday, February 13, 3:00-4:00pm, Faculty Room, Low Library – Register

The Office of the Provost Teaching and Learning Grants have seeded teaching innovations that have flourished into transformative learning experiences for Columbia students across the University. This panel of faculty grant recipients will reflect back on the arc of their journeys as innovators and discuss how their practices have evolved since receiving a Provost’s grant. Moderated by Catherine Ross, Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Panelists include:

  • Laurel Abbruzzese, Associate Professor of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine
  • Jay Sethuraman, Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research
  • Brent Stockwell, William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Biological Sciences and Professor of Chemistry and of Pathology and Cell Biology
  • Susan Witte, Professor of Social Work

Panel to be followed by a celebratory reception from 4:00-5:30pm in Low Rotunda.

Entering Mentoring Workshop Series 
This series is designed for mentors of graduate students and postdocs in research lab contexts. These workshops are based on the Entering Mentoring curriculum developed by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Research Experiences (CIMER). During these workshops, CIMER-trained facilitators engage faculty and research officers in discussions about key principles in mentoring. These workshops are designed to engage research mentors at any experience level by leveraging their collective experiences with mentoring and exploring mentoring strategies that work well in their disciplinary contexts. Join fellow mentors for upcoming sessions:

  • Aligning Expectations. February 9, 1:15-2:15pm – Register
  • Maintaining Effective Communication. March 19, 10:00-11:00am – Register
  • Assessing Understanding. April 4, 4:00-5:00pm – Register
