CTLgrads Journal Club

Are you interested in the research on teaching and learning and how to apply this research to your teaching practice? Join us for our CTLgrads Journal Club where we will introduce you to the research on teaching in various disciplines (also known as Discipline-Based Education Research, or DBER) and engage peer-reviewed articles through our group discussions and contributions to the journal club. Each session will also focus on how we can use education research—in our field and beyond—to inform our own teaching practices. The CTLgrads Journal Club will be a HyFlex event, you may choose to attend either in person or online via Zoom

Date: Wednesday, December 1
Time: 2:40–3:55 PM
Location: 204 Butler or Zoom

Teachers’ Lounge: Choreographing Teaching in Artifacts

The recent wave of online instruction, abetted by technologies supporting collaboration, has led many instructors to (re)focus on documents and artifacts as sites of live, formative, strategically choreographed instruction. In what ways are instructors orchestrating and monitoring learning as it imprints itself on artifacts? And how might methods for digital collaboration translate back into in-person classroom settings? Join us for a consideration of ways to build moments of realization and insight around documents and other teaching artifacts.

Teachers’ Lounges are a series of informal discussions for graduate students about teaching practices and the culture of learning at Columbia. This session is the final of a series organized by the theme (Re)Locating Teaching. Materials from previous Teachers’ Lounge sessions are available to Columbia affiliates.

Date: Tuesday, December 7
Time: 12:10–1:25 PM
Location: Online
