Provost announces RFPs for Spring 2017: Hybrid learning, MOOCs
The Office of the Provost has launched two new Request for Proposals (RFPs) for funding opportunities for Columbia faculty who are looking to integrate new educational technologies into their classroom and online teaching.
The CTL will be holding a town hall on Tuesday, January 31 at 2pm in Butler 212 to give interested faculty members more information about the two RFPs and the application process. It will also hold open office hours the week of March 6, 2017 including Friday, March 10, 1pm – 5pm in Butler 212 where interested faculty members can walk in and receive consultation and feedback on their projects and applications.

Hybrid Learning Course Redesign and Delivery
The Hybrid Learning Course Redesign and Delivery grant program provides support for faculty who are developing innovative and technology-rich pedagogy and learning strategies in the classroom. Instructors of selected courses will have access to resources and support from the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) for content development, instructional design, media production, assessment, and project management.
Awardees will receive in-kind support from the CTL and will also be funded with a grant of up to $20,000. A key goal of this initiative, which began in 2014, is to measure the effectiveness of these efforts, and to improve instructional delivery methods and learning outcomes of Columbia University students from all disciplines. Faculty can apply for support for courses held during the 2017-18 academic year.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
The Office of the Provost will also continue to support open online courses taught by Columbia faculty via a Request for Proposals for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Columbia courses offered through MOOC platforms continue to attract and reach a large global learning community, stimulate curiosity and intellectual exploration, make teaching and research activities at the University more visible, and promote public engagement and dialogue through our open online courses.
While the experience of developing and offering these courses can be rewarding, MOOCs require substantial time to prepare. Accepted courses will receive consultation services and hands-on support for instructional design and media production from the CTL. A limited number of grants of up to $25,000 each will be awarded.
