Self-Paced Science of Learning MOOC Launching Today on edX

by | May 10, 2017

Teachers College, Columbia University and the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) are relaunching The Science of Learning–What Every Teacher Should Know MOOC (massive open online course) as a self-paced course on the edX platform. The course is free and open to all.

Created by Professor Pearl Rock Kane and Dr. Kevin Mattingly, both faculty at Teachers College, the course explores, through current research, how we learn — the way our brain makes, stores, and retrieves memories. This self-paced course is based on the instructor-led course offered in Fall 2016. As a part of the White House ConnectED Initiative, U.S. teachers and students in high-need schools who participate in this course will be eligible for free Verified Certificates.

The 20-hour course consists of video lectures by guest teachers from the field, expert interviews, online discussions, illustrations of concepts, a glossary of terms, activities for exploration and application, reflective prompts, and interactive assessments.
