Slow Teaching: Mindfulness & Meditation

October 7, 2016
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Butler Library Room 212

How does mindfulness deepen our awareness of the present moment? Can a simple meditative exercise help reduce stress in our lives and in the classroom? In this session, we will explore simple meditative practices, including mindful breathing and heart-centering exercises, that help to cultivate self-compassion, enhance cognitive focus, and reconnect with the intentions of what we are setting out to teach and learn.

The Slow Teaching, Deep Learning series seeks to develop reflective communities of inquiry through contemplative practice. In each session, participants will engage with emerging research regarding the benefits of mindfulness in and outside of the classroom, and be guided through exercises they can potentially apply to their personal and pedagogical practices. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
