The CRLT Players at Columbia University Event

Columbia University welcomes the University of Michigan’s nationally renowned CRLT Theatre Players.

The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) Theatre Players event series promises to deliver high-energy, interactive, transformative performances that open up conversations about diversity and inclusive learning environments on campus.

This event series is sponsored by the Columbia Center for Teaching and Learning, the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion, the Columbia University Medical Center Diversity Deans, the Office of University Life, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

7 into 15

Consisting of short plays presented in rapid succession, 7 into 15 uses a variety of innovative staging techniques to place the challenges of teaching and learning within the academy center stage. Provocative and often humorous, 7 into 15 is perfect for considering issues of diversity and inclusion as a community, and fostering dialogue toward the cultivation of inclusive teaching environments.

Great Expectations: Mentoring Graduate Students

Great Expectations explores common tensions that arise between advisors and their advisees. The sketch depicts two different mentoring relationships, allowing a comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. It also raises questions about the ways in which problems that emerge within a mentoring dyad might affect departmental climate more generally.

The CRLT Players performance really conveyed the message that our student population is extremely diversified. This made me think a lot more about how to be an inclusive professor, both in class and in research group.
