You can also receive support with assessment platforms such as CourseWorks (Canvas) or Gradescope during our office hours via Zoom (or phone) Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm.

Get the support you and your students need
The end of the semester can be a stressful time for your and your students. Consider sharing well-being resources with your students, and know who to contact when you are concerned about a student. The CTL’s Teaching in Times of Stress and Challenge has a list of resources that you can connect with. Join us online on Tuesday, April 16, 11:00am-12:00pm for an informal Teaching in Times of Stress conversation – Register.

Collect actionable feedback from students
Encourage your students to fill out the end-of-course evaluation surveys by letting them know that their feedback matters. Explain to them how you will use the information they provide to improve the course. For free-response comments, ask students to provide specific examples of what would improve the learning experience.

Need assistance interpreting and using the feedback received? The CTL offers consultations. Please contact Faculty Programs and Services at CTLfaculty@columbia.edu.

Upcoming workshop to support your design of assignments and rubrics

Transparent Assignment and Rubric Design in the Age of AI
May 1, 11:30am – 2:00pm – Register

AI and its use in assignments has exposed a critical need for instructors to make their assignment expectations completely transparent to students. This session will offer a framework for transparent design to ensure that students know the purpose, the task, and the criteria for success on an assignment.

Bring an assignment idea or an existing assignment to work on. During the session, you will apply the transparent design framework to your course assignment, engage in peer review, create a rubric for your assignment, and plan for implementation.

Unable to join us for this workshop? Looking for more assignment and rubric design support? Email CTLFaculty@columbia.edu to schedule your 1-1 consultation.
