Innovative Course Design Seminar

In the Innovative Course Design Seminar, participants explore evidence-based, inclusive instructional design practices and create a learner-centered syllabus of their own design. Participants apply the principles of backward design and inclusive teaching to develop context-specific learning objectives, aligned and scaffolded assessments, and a range of engaging activities that facilitate student learning within the context of a single course. Applications are now being accepted through Monday, September 18th, 2023.

ICDS is running in Fall 2023 in person from 10:10am-12pm in Butler Library on five successive Wednesdays: October 4, October 11, October 18, October 25, and November 1.

For those enrolled in the Teaching Development Program (TDP), this seminar satisfies the Advanced Track seminar requirement.

CTL’s Graduate Student Advisory Committee: Application Period Extended to September 8!

The Center for Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce the formation of a new Graduate Student Advisory Committee, set to launch in Fall 2023. We invite graduate students across the Columbia campus to submit applications to join this committee.

Guided by CTL staff, this committee will have two broad purposes: to engage a range of diverse student communities across the Columbia campus and, in so doing, to obtain community-centered input and advice on graduate student teaching support needs, CTL offerings, and effective modes of outreach.

Applications for a one year (renewable) appointment to the committee are now being accepted and are due by Friday, September 8, 2023. Please contact the CTL with any questions (CTLgrads@columbia.edu).

GSAS Fellowships in Academic Administration: Deadline Extended to September 7

The GSAS Fellowships in Academic Administration (FAA) program offers advanced doctoral students in Arts and Sciences departments the opportunity to gain experience in administrative offices across Columbia’s campuses. This program enhances graduate student professional development by supplementing the training GSAS students receive in research and teaching with an introduction to the day-to-day operations of the University. The experience allows students to cultivate a stronger professional profile and develop administrative skills in preparation for any future career.  The application deadline has been extended to Thursday, September 7, 11:59pm EDT.

Positions include those as a Center for Teaching and Learning Teaching Development Program Assessment Fellow and a Science of Learning Research Initiative Administrative Fellow.
