This Week for Faculty: New Hybrid & Online Teaching Institute
Prepare for Fall 2020
New: Hybrid and Online Teaching Institute
To prepare Columbia faculty for the Fall 2020 semester, the CTL has developed the Hybrid & Online Teaching Institute: a new online offering that guides faculty through adapting their courses from face-to-face to online or hybrid formats. This offering provides instructors a foundation that can serve across all formats of teaching with the capacity to adapt quickly to whatever mode of teaching makes the most sense at any given time.
The institute consists of asynchronous, on-demand content hosted in CourseWorks followed by a synchronous online experience with CTL staff and other faculty participants over Zoom. Together, these sections provide faculty with a comprehensive toolkit they can apply to their own course context whether this may be a seminar, small lecture, or large lecture class.

Designing Interactive Learning Objects
Are you thinking about ways to engage students with digital activities? Are you interested in building your own interactive learning objects such as quizzes, games, simulations, graphics, or videos? The 2020 Designing Interactive Learning Objects Institute is a three-day workshop devoted to exploring the effective design and integration of interactive learning objects into active learning environments. This year’s institute will be run remotely, with both synchronous and asynchronous sessions taking place over the three days. Throughout the institute, faculty will focus on mapping activities to specific student learning objectives for a unit in their course. Faculty are invited to apply by June 29, 2020.
